About Me

Hello! I am Dr. McKinnon, a board-certified OB/GYN who practiced for many years in a prominent OB/GYN practice at Newton-Wellesley Hospital outside of Boston, MA.

I received my undergraduate degree from Tufts University (where I met my husband) and I graduated medical school and residency from the University of Massachusetts Medical School. I have three daughters and one son. My oldest daughter is a PhD student in Physiology at UCLA. Recently, my second daughter graduated from the University of Michigan with a dual degree BA in Film, Television, and Media and a BFA in Art and Design. My third daughter is a student at Boston University majoring in Political Science and Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies. My son is a junior at a high school for Complex Learners.

The hormonal abnormalities that resulted from my son’s genetic condition sparked my interest in hormones and Functional Medicine.

My son was adopted with us knowing he had many complex medical issues. Despite having some of the best doctors and hospitals in Boston, my son was having seizures and severe hypertension and no one could figure out why. I took it upon myself to try to help my son since his health was steadily declining.

Functional medicine opened up a world of empowerment and allowed me to look at the root cause of disease where it was possible.

My son was on two blood pressure medications and antiseizure medications for many years. With functional medicine testing and a focus on nutrition, exercise, environmental exposures, supplements, and proper hormone therapies he is now off all blood pressure medications and seizure medications! I would never have believed the power of hormones and functional medicine if I had not seen these changes in my son firsthand.

I also suffered from health issues consisting of early breast cancer (diagnosed seven years ago) and harsh perimenopausal symptoms (sleep disturbances, joint pain, hot flashes, brain fog, weight gain). After furthering my research and understanding of hormones, I am thankful that I learned safe and effective ways to deal with these issues.

I am so grateful to be on my bioidentical hormone replacement therapy!

One of my favorite parts of being a physician is working one-on-one with patients and taking care of them as if they were my own daughter or friend. In my practice, that is exactly what I do!

I partner with my patients to help them be the best version of themselves!
